Language, Literacy & Communication

Our language and literacy curriculum supports the development of listening, speaking, emergent reading, and early writing skills. As children grow, they expand their vocabulary, follow increasingly complex directions, and engage in meaningful conversations with peers and teachers. Educators encourage children to express their thoughts, ideas, wants, and needs with greater clarity and confidence as their communication skills continue to develop.

Children are read to daily and participate in a variety of literacy-rich experiences that foster a love of books, storytelling, language, and learning. Through exposure to print, letter recognition, early writing activities, songs, rhymes, and word play, children build the foundational skills necessary for future reading and writing success.

Cognitive Development

Our cognitive development curriculum focuses on building strong foundations in mathematics, scientific thinking, problem-solving, and understanding the world around us. Young and intermediate preschoolers develop early math skills through counting, sequencing, patterning, sorting, exploring spatial relationships, and measuring. As children progress to Pre-K, they expand their understanding of numbers, classification, time concepts, geometry, measurement, and introductory addition while strengthening their ability to apply mathematical thinking in everyday situations.

Scientific inquiry is integrated throughout the curriculum and encourages children to explore, question, investigate, and discover. Through hands-on experiences and guided learning opportunities, children learn to make observations, ask questions, form predictions, develop simple plans, and communicate their ideas and findings. These experiences foster critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and confidence as children build the skills needed for future academic success.

Motor Development, Health & Well-Being

Motor development, health, and well-being remain important areas of growth during the preschool years. Children continue to strengthen their gross motor skills as they develop greater balance, coordination, agility, and body awareness. Through active play and structured movement experiences, they learn to run, jump, climb, catch, throw, and move with increasing control and confidence.

Fine motor development also continues to advance as children gain greater dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Daily opportunities to practice self-help skills, such as feeding, dressing, and personal care routines, foster independence and confidence. Children further refine the small muscles in their hands and fingers through activities such as drawing, painting, writing, building, cutting, and manipulating a variety of learning materials and tools.

Social & Emotional Development

Our social and emotional development curriculum focuses on three key areas: emotional development, self-concept, and social competence and relationships. Teachers support these competencies through modeling positive interactions, guiding daily experiences, and fostering a respectful, inclusive learning environment.

Children are provided with ongoing opportunities to build independence, strengthen self-awareness, and develop empathy for others. They learn how to interact positively with peers, navigate social situations, and form meaningful relationships. Through play-based learning and daily interactions with friends and educators, children build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of self.

Our Approach to Learning

 

Our arts curriculum supports creativity and self-expression through multi-step art projects and daily opportunities for exploration using a wide variety of materials, including dress-up items, open-ended and recycled art supplies, and real-world objects. Preschool and Pre-K learners are encouraged to use the arts intentionally, build vocabulary to describe their creations, and begin combining artistic elements in increasingly purposeful ways. Teachers foster creative thinking and innovation by encouraging exploration, imagination, and joyful engagement in the creative process.

We focus on foundational skills that support lifelong learning, including curiosity, engagement, persistence, inventiveness, and appropriate risk-taking. At this level, children demonstrate growing enthusiasm for exploring new ideas, sustaining play with peers over time, persisting through challenges, experimenting with different materials and approaches, and contributing their thoughts and ideas during group discussions and activities.
